Villajoyosa Area

Villajoyosa, "the jewel city", is 30 km from Alicante and 10 km from Benidorm. Near the port in the lower part of the village, there is a beautiful esplanade shaded by palm trees.

One of the most characteristic sights of Villajoyosa is the brightly painted houses beside the river. The use of such colours as ochre, red, yellow and blue is a visual feast and the houses appear to be suspended over the river bed. The old quarter of Villajoyosa has been declared an area of historical and artistic interest.

The area is a paradise for fishing and the marina has a nautical centre. The beaches boast several kilometres of fine sand and have been awarded the European Union Blue Flag.

There are many fine restaurants in the area where one can sample various fish and rice dishes.
